A Simple and Fast Method to Quantify Protein Using the LAMBDA 365+ UV/Vis Spectrometer

Introduction

UV/Vis spectroscopy represents a powerful technique to study any analyte that is able to absorb light in the UV and Visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. When proteins contain aromatic side chain amino acids and disulfide bonds,1 these complex biomolecules fall into this category of analytes and present a characteristic peak in the absorption spectrum around 280 nm.

This application note describes how the LAMBDA 365+ UV/Vis spectrometer was used to simply and accurately quantify total protein concentration in solution.
